Acure x "Thor" S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Desk
Luxury automaker Acura and the world’s most innovative design practice Studio Dror, teamed up to design a limited-edition desk inspired by the automaker’s role in “Thor”, the new Marvel film starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins.
Designed with the iconic Marvel “S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent” in mind, the Acura x “Thor” S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Desk created by Dror Benshetrit has the following features: graphite and light wood base that supports a 200×70” desktop; finishing inspired by the Acura TL’s chassis; secret drawers and compartments; concealed Bose speakers; and a discreet iPhone/iPad docking station.
S.H.I.E.L.D. the intelligence and security organization of Marvel Universe featured in the film’s storyline, has its agents behind the wheels of Acura TL, MDX, ZDX and RL models throughout the film. With the storyline in mind, Dror interpreted an agent’s work environment into a stylized and functional desk appropriate for this venerated universe. “It was fun to project myself as a S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent and to shift the approach when designing this desk for Acura, as if I was going to be user 001,” Dror said. “It’s a stimulating part of the design process.”
Excited by Acura’s attention to detail and precise manufacturing, the design of the desk combines elegance, sharpness, secrecy, advanced technology and efficiency– all elements Dror identified as akin to the spirit of his work and that of Acura. The desk is part of Acura’s ongoing partnership with the movie “Thor” which includes initiatives such as the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent recruitment center at the likes of C2E2 and New York Auto Show, as well as the launch of the interactive website www.joinshield.com, where fans climb the ranks within the organization by completing assigned case files to earn the chance to exclusive prizes.
Dror has lectured around the world and received numerous design awards including the GE Plastics Competition “Merging Boundaries” (2001), iF Product Design Award (2006), the Good Design Award (2008).
The desk will be on display at DDCLAB, New York in May and in limited edition. Price available upon request to enthusiasts.
